The Blog: Whitney Jones, Senior Director for the Center for Academic Success and Engagement

Hello, my name is Whitney Jones! I currently serve as the Senior Director for the Center for Academic Success and Engagement. I started at Baylor University in 2017, serving primarily new students while overseeing New Student Orientation. It has always been my passion to serve students wholeheartedly as they go through their collegiate experience.

I am the parent of an eight-year-old, Jacob. He is full of energy and enjoys learning about the solar system. On the weekends we spend time at the Farmers Market and Sam’s Club (one of his favorites). We are originally from Arkansas.

College is a unique and transformative experience. As a former first-generation college student, I had my share of challenges and moments where I questioned whether or not college was where I should be. Through the support of faculty, staff, and upper-class students, I learned how to be resilient and enjoy the experiences afforded to me.

Parents, college is an experience for you as well. It is a time of letting go while allowing your student to grow. You have an essential role in empowering your student to take advantage of the resources and services provided to them at Baylor University. Lastly, remind your student often college is not a sprint; it is a marathon. And on this marathon, we are one vibrant community committed to helping Bears flourish and thrive.

No, the Academic Success Center serves all students at Baylor. They assist in a large variety of areas such as tutoring, time management, and Supplemental Instruction.
