FAFSA® Simplification

Hey Parents!

Major changes to the FAFSA® are coming soon! Due to these changes, the 2024-2025 FAFSA® will not be available until December 2023 (the exact opening date has not been released by the Department of Education).

Below are some important FAFSA® changes to make note of —

  • Contributor
    • A new term referring to anyone besides the student who is required to provide information on the FAFSA®
      • All Contributors need their own FSA ID. This could include both parents and stepparents.
      • Contributors are required to give consent to have their federal tax information (FTI) transferred from the IRS.
      • ALL contributors must give their consent to have their FTI transferred from the IRS for a student to be eligible for federal, state, and institutional need-based financial aid.

    • There are fewer questions!
      • It greatly enhances the user experience for you and your student.
      • It should drastically reduce the time needed to complete the application.

    • Complete As Soon As Possible
      • The information is processed in the order they are received, so it is to your benefit to complete the forms as soon as they are available. The priority date to complete the FAFSA is March 1, 2024.
