The Paul L. Foster Success Center is home to several departments and programs, all of which share a common goal: helping your student succeed.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT PROGRAMS

Provides multiple forms of free academic support to help a student develop the academic and personal strategies required by the Baylor classroom.

  • STL 1200 (Strategic Learning) A graded, two-hour course focused on college-level study strategies and self-management skills.

  • TUTORING Available by appointment or walk-in, Monday-Thursday, 9am-8 pm, on the first floor Sid Richardson Building.

  • LEARNING LAB Help with academic strategies (creating a study calendar or a plan for test preparation, etc.) on a walk-in basis, Monday-Thursday, 1-4 pm, in the west wing, basement level of Sid Richardson.

  • MENTORING Meeting once weekly with a more experienced student for encouragement, information, instruction and guidance for helping with the transition to the college classroom and campus life

  • SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION (SI) Structured group study sessions conducted twice weekly by a trained peer-leader who has already been successful in the targeted class.

  • ACADEMIC COACHING One-on-one meetings by appointment with a professional staff member.

Ensures every student has the opportunity and support to achieve their career potential by providing access to career resources such as:

  • One-on-one career coaching
  • On campus events with employers
  • Salary negotiation
  • Three locations on campus
  • In 2019 the Career Center had:
    o 5,646 one-on-one appointments with students in 2019.
    o 106 employers offered 3,347 interview slots for students ON CAMPUS in the Career Center.
    o Hosted 275 events for students ranging from information sessions, workshops, networking and classroom presentations.

  • Advisors advise their assigned students and guide them as they develop, modify, and pursue their academic goals, by collaborating with all our campus partners, and by referring each student to appropriate resources.
    • Teach students to take responsibility for their own academic journey.
    • Support and challenge them in appropriate ways depending on their developmental stage.
    • Assist and guide the many students who are transitioning from one program to another and discovering the major/program that is the best fit for them.

    The University Writing Center (UWC) helps students become more effective writers and to make writing a more meaningful, productive, and enjoyable process.

    • Offers both in-person and online appointments and helps students on Baylor's campus as well as those taking online courses or studying abroad.
    • Consultants are graduates and undergraduate students who receive intensive training on all aspects of writing, including multilingual tutoring.
